Grammy observations 2014
Style-wise Grammys 2014 were a mixed bag.
There are so many awards shows these days. One would be dizzy using them to make note of trends. For this gal, the biggies are the Grammys and the Oscars, so I’ll just check in on the Grammy awards for now. Really, the show is known for it’s performances, but if there’s a tv camera, we know there was some serious thought going into hair and makeup.
My observations reveal, if nothing else, the range of my taste. Let’s start off on a positive note, shall we?
Starting off the show, the amazing Beyoncé looked so sexy with her wet look, and incredible outfit. Her performance reminded me of Flashdance. It was also cool to see her dapper husband Jay Z share the stage.
I adore Alicia Keys’ Mohawk. The tight back and sides build up to a beautifully frothed pile of black curls. The silhouette looks like an amazing updo, super feminine. Her makeup was subtle, in perfect balance with the statement hair and brilliant blue dress. I can see this look inspiring brides with short hair this summer.
It was reassuring to see Kelly Osbourne in her signature lilac bob. (I just love pastel tones in hair, more on that in my next entry, I think,) She went with a deep cool pink lip, and a wide awake, but light eye color. Her dress looked like a nod to Black Sabbath.
Katy Perry went with her usual baby doll eyes, complete with full lashes. Paired with a pale lip, her makeup was well matched with her voluminous dark glossy updo. Her hairstylist is to be congratulated. To get that shiny sleek upsweep, combined with the balanced pile of glossy rolls was no small feat.
I’m not sure how I feel about Madonna. Her suit matching her son’s was kind of adorable, and I loved her crucifix necklace, a sort of nod to her younger self. What, however, was up with the fake grill?
I was a little sad to see that the lovely Amber Rose covered her tattoos over with makeup. She is so ballsy with her bleached buzz cut, (with a face like that, of courses
Once Beyoncé dried her hair and toned down her makeup, I was glad to see the gorgeous white dress. I do wonder, however, what is going on with her hair color. It looked great wet, but dry, I thought looked a little trashy, call me harsh. Debbie Harry pulls off roots, since she dwells in the realm of punk, but I’m not sure about Beyoncé. It’s a matter of opinion, I suppose.he can pull it off), why would she cover up her tattoos?
Anyhow, there are my observations on the Grammys for this year. I can’t wait to see the Oscars.
